The Pinnacle Award honorees, some of the most respected women in this area, will be honored with a reception beginning at 6 p.m. March 10 at Gilcrease Museum. A special patron reception will be held at 5:30 p.m.

Presented by the Mayor's Commission on the Status of Women and the Tulsa Women's Foundation, the awards honor women who are role models in their professions, take risks on behalf of others, perform voluntary community service and demonstrate a commitment to women's issues and concerns.

Proceeds from the reception will fund scholarships awarded by Tulsa Women's Foundation to organizations with programs that benefit women and children in the Tulsa community.

Recipients of the 2009 Pinnacle Awards and their respective categories are: Nancy Meinig, arts and humanities; Gail Richards, community service; Mary Beth Babcock, corporate/business; Marty Laughlin, education; Dr. Dianna Willis, health; and Channing Barker, rising star.

The winner of this year's Spirit Award is Margarita Vega Treviño, owner and president of Zapata Multi-Media, publisher of Hispano de Tulsa, northeastern Oklahoma's first Spanish language newspaper.

The Spirit Award is presented to a woman who has overcome extraordinary circumstances that allowed her to demonstrate a commitment to and take action that benefited the community at large.
