You might not think someone with a name like Rivka Galchen would have spent much time in Oklahoma, but this critically acclaimed author grew up in Norman where her father taught meteorology at OU. Now she is professor of creative writing at Columbia (and an M.D. to boot).  Her debut novel, Atmospheric Disturbances was a New York Times notable book and compared to the likes of Pynchon and Vonnegut.
